About the Bellefonte Area School District
Diploma Program for Adults

The diploma program for adults began during the 2002-2003 school year.  This program is funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in cooperation with the Bellefonte Area School District and Intermediate Unit 10 Adult Development Center.

The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for adult members of the community to earn a high school diploma from Bellefonte Area High School.

The program is based on completing life skills competencies as outlined in a handbook provided to students.  Throughout the year, instructors will teach mini-lessons to help students brush-up on the skills needed to successfully complete these competencies.  After completing a competency, students will present and explain their work to an instructor and then submit the final copy to their portfolio.

Classes are held once a week where teachers provide help and guidance in completing the competencies.  Classes meet in the High School Library where students can use all of the resources available to high school students during the day.
